Some passengers rescued after Lake Kariba boat capsizes, rescue operation continues

Search and rescue operations are underway after a boat carrying 90 passengers and five crew members capsized on Lake Kariba on Tuesday.

Some passengers have since been rescued and taken to safety, although police are yet to confirm the number of casualties.

The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) confirmed that the vessel, operated by the Rural Infrastructure Development Agency (RIDA), capsized on Lake Kariba, prompting a major rescue operation.

The vessel has been identified in local reports as the Mbuyanehanda Ferry, which capsized near Long Island in Lake Kariba on Tuesday afternoon.
