An unexpected late-night return home turned deadly in Shurugwi after a man discovered his wife in bed with her lover, assaulted him and left him with injuries that later proved fatal.
Police are now searching for the husband, who is wanted to answer to murder allegations following the death of 46-year-old Anyway Zhuwawo.
The incident occurred on October 11 at around 10pm at Dendere homestead in Dendere Village, under Chief Banga in Shurugwi.
Midlands provincial police spokesperson Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko confirmed the case, saying Zhuwawo died from injuries sustained during the alleged assault.
“Zimbabwe Republic Police confirms a case of murder where a Shurugwi-Tongogara man died from injuries sustained after being bashed by his girlfriend’s husband,” Mahoko said.
Zhuwawo, from Mapfumo Village under Chief Negomo in Murehwa, had spent the night at the home of his girlfriend, Kuitakwashe Musaigwa, while her husband, Moreblessing Dendere, was away visiting Mutare.
However, the situation took a dramatic turn when Dendere returned home unexpectedly that night and found the pair sleeping together in the bedroom.
“During the night, the husband returned without communicating with the wife and found the two sleeping in the bedroom,” Mahoko said.
Dendere allegedly attacked Zhuwawo with an unknown blunt object, striking him repeatedly across the body.
The assault left Zhuwawo with head injuries and a broken ankle.
In the aftermath of the alleged beating, Zhuwawo rfled the homestead and made his way to his place of residence naked.
He was taken to Gamwa Clinic the following day for treatment before being transferred to Shurugwi District Hospital, where he later died while admitted.
Police said Zhuwawo’s death was reported at ZRP Tongogara on October 15 at around 10am, four days after the alleged assault.
Investigations are under way, with Dendere being sought by police to answer to the murder allegations.
Mahoko appealed to members of the public with information that could lead to Dendere’s arrest to assist the police.
“We appeal for information concerning the whereabouts of Moreblessing Dendere. We are keen to hear his side of the story on the allegations of murder, which he now faces,” Mahoko said.
Police said information from the public could help establish the full circumstances surrounding the alleged assault and the events that led to Zhuwawo’s death.
