JOHANNESBURG — Zimbabwean-born British citizen Ndodana Mkhanyisi Tshuma, who is wanted in connection with the alleged murder of his wife and two daughters in the United Kingdom, has been remanded in custody to August 27 as South African authorities continue processing an extradition request.

Tshuma appeared before a Johannesburg court on Wednesday, where prosecutors told the court that investigations linked to the extradition proceedings were still ongoing and had not yet been concluded.

The State said British authorities, who are pursuing Tshuma’s extradition, were still expected to provide additional information required to advance the matter.

The court heard that issues surrounding Tshuma’s lawful presence in South Africa had been finalised, but other aspects of the extradition process remained outstanding pending further communication and documentation from the UK authorities.

Prosecutors also revealed that Tshuma is facing separate criminal charges in South Africa relating to the alleged possession of a firearm and ammunition.

The latest court appearance forms part of a legal process that could ultimately determine whether Tshuma is extradited to the UK to face proceedings over the alleged killings.

Tshuma’s arrest in South Africa followed an international manhunt after authorities in the UK linked him to the deaths of his wife and two daughters.

The extradition process is expected to involve further submissions by the British authorities before the South African court can consider the outstanding issues.

For now, Tshuma will remain in custody as investigators and prosecutors work through both the extradition proceedings and the South African firearm and ammunition charges.

The matter was postponed to August 27 for further proceedings.

Further developments are expected as the authorities continue efforts to finalise the extradition-related investigations and documentation.
