Zimbabwean football champions Scottland FC have emerged victorious in a disciplinary dispute involving the alleged fielding of an ineligible player during their Chibuku Super Cup encounter against FC Platinum, after the Premier Soccer League (PSL) dismissed the complaint on procedural grounds without determining whether the player was eligible to participate.
In a judgment announced on Saturday, 31 October 2026, the PSL Disciplinary Committee upheld Scottland FC’s preliminary objection, ruling that the complaint concerning Witbeen Stoffel had not been submitted within the timeframe prescribed by competition regulations.
The decision means the result of the Chibuku Super Cup match played at Rufaro Stadium on 14 August 2026 will stand. Scottland defeated FC Platnum 3-1 in the Chibuku Round of 16 match at Rufaro Stadium.
In its official statement, the PSL confirmed that the dispute had been settled on procedural grounds rather than through an examination of the allegations.
“The Disciplinary Committee (PSL DC) has upheld Scottland FC’s first preliminary objection, that the complaint concerning the eligibility of the player was not submitted within the time required by Article 6.3 of the Chibuku Super Cup 2026 Rules and Regulations,” the league said.
Significantly, the disciplinary body made no determination on whether Stoffel had been properly registered with the league for the 2026 season.
“The Committee made no finding on whether the player was registered with the League for the 2026 season due to the procedural defect in the timing of the complaint,” the PSL stated.
The case highlights the importance of strict procedural compliance in Zimbabwean football, where clubs challenging match results must adhere to prescribed deadlines regardless of the seriousness of their allegations.
