President Emmerson Mnangagwa has appointed businessman and Senator Kudakwashe Tagwirei to ZANU-PF’s powerful Politburo as Secretary for Economic Affairs and Investment Promotion in a reshuffle announced on Thursday.
The changes, announced by ZANU-PF spokesperson Ambassador Christopher Mutsvangwa, see former party secretary for administration Obert Mpofu demoted to the Council of Elders, while former legislator Mayor Wadyajena has been appointed to the party’s Central Committee.
The appointments take immediate effect.

Mpofu’s demotion to the Council of Elders marks a change in his responsibilities within the party. He previously held the influential position of secretary for administration, overseeing key organisational and administrative functions.
The Council of Elders is one of ZANU-PF’s internal structures, providing an advisory platform for senior party members.
The latest changes come as Mnangagwa navigates internal political dynamics while tightening his grip on the levers of power within both the ruling party and government.
ZANU-PF has not provided further details on the circumstances behind the changes or outlined specific responsibilities beyond the positions announced.
