KWEKWE — Three men on the police wanted list, two of them already serving prison terms in Mvurwi, are assisting police in Kwekwe with investigations into murder and robbery cases committed in the Midlands mining town in May.

The suspects are William Chapu (40) of Unit O, Seke in Chitungwiza, Zivanai Ncube (40) of Rutendo in Redcliff and Daniel Banda (45) of Village Bhasi under Chief Chirau in Zvimba.

Police tracked Chapu and Ncube to Mvurwi Prison where they were serving time for other robbery cases. Banda was arrested in Kadoma.

The trio were brought to Kwekwe to assist with investigations.

Two other suspects, Musa Mutingwende and another only identified as Chester also known as Tsano, are still at large.

Police have appealed for information leading to their arrest.

Midlands provincial police spokesperson Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko said the crimes occurred in the Chicago area of Kwekwe in May 2026.

He said two residential properties were raided at night by a gang of five men wearing dark clothes and hooded jackets and armed with machetes and iron bars.

Property worth a combined US$33 000 was stolen, including two vehicles, cash, groceries and household goods, Mahoko said.

In the first incident, the gang raided a plot at Nesby Farm where an elderly woman and her three daughters were present.

They were assaulted and forced to surrender US$800, two cellphones and a Nissan Pajero vehicle which the gang used to ferry stolen property.

In the second incident, the gang raided the home of Letty Nyangu (72) who was killed during the raid. Her vehicle, a Honda Fit, was stolen.

Mahoko said the offence was discovered by Nyangu’s son who had visited from Harare on 25 May at around 2pm and found his mother dead in the house.

In both cases, the stolen vehicles were recovered a day later abandoned in Kadoma.

Investigations are continuing.
