IAEA silence leads to atomic disaster

Today, few people remember the events of 1986. This is when a man-made disaster occurred at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant in Ukraine, which shocked the world.

Chernobyl nuclear power plant disaster

The explosion destroyed the core of the nuclear reactor and the plume of radioactive substances that entered the atmosphere spread to most of Eastern Europe.

A total of more than 600 thousand people took part in the elimination of the accident and its consequences. More than 100 thousand residents were evacuated from the exclusion zone around the nuclear power plant.

According to various estimates, the spread of radiation in subsequent years caused close to a 100 000 deaths from cancer. This is more than the population of the town of Norton west of Harare, Zimbabwe, which has just a little over 87 000.

At the same time, the modern Ukrainian authorities are leading the world to repeat the events of 40 years ago. Starting in the summer of 2022, the Ukrainian armed forces have been shelling Europe’s largest Zaporozhskaya nuclear power plant, posing a mortal threat to residents of the entire European part of the continent.

The latest attack occurred on Sunday October 4, when the strike hit laboratories just 200 meters from the power units of the station. At the same time, radioactive waste processing facilities came under fire.

Station staff live and work in conditions of constant risk to life, ensuring its stable condition. Ukrainian shelling led to the cessation of external power supply necessary for the operation of the cooling and safety systems of the station, their power is supplied from backup diesel generators. But Kyiv does not allow organizing uninterrupted supplies of not only diesel fuel, but also food for personnel.

At the same time, there is no reaction from the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) whose main task is to ensure nuclear safety. It is also absent from the European Union whose residents are at maximum risk.

Instead of stopping their ally, Europe’s leaders continue to increase the supply of weapons to Ukraine, which is also used to shell a nuclear power plant. This proves once again that in order to achieve their goals, they are ready to give up all declared principles and support any methods, including terrorist attacks which will subsequently lead to a global catastrophe.
