Zimbabwe’s Young Warriors produced a commanding performance on the road, defeating Mauritius 4-1 in the second leg of their Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) Under-23 preliminary-round qualifier on Tuesday to progress 6-1 on aggregate.
The emphatic victory at the Côte d’Or National Sports Complex in Mauritius completed a convincing two-leg triumph for Marc Sánchez’s side, who had won the first leg 2-0 at the National Sports Stadium in Harare on September 30.
Zimbabwe went into the return fixture with a significant advantage after goals from David Chigwada and Nisbert Muzenda had put them in control in the first meeting. The Young Warriors, however, refused to rely on their first-leg cushion and finished the job in emphatic fashion.
The result means Zimbabwe advance to the second round of the 2027 AFCON U23 qualifiers, where they are scheduled to face Mali.
