Two suspected armed robbers have been killed and four others arrested following a shoot-out with law enforcement officers in Bulawayo.
The suspects are linked to the murder of Bulawayo businessperson Tedious Rutanhira and at least 10 armed robbery cases in the city and surrounding areas.
Rutanhira, 52, was shot dead in Bulawayo on September 14 during a robbery, prompting investigations by the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP).
Police confirmed that suspects linked to the murder and robbery cases were involved in a shoot-out with law enforcement officers, resulting in the deaths of Mehluli Ncube, 45, alias Mamba, and Muzi Richard Fambirai Moyo, 45.
Four other suspects — Shelton Jubane, 37, Charles Ndlovu, 52, Prince Chisale and Clive Ncube, 27 — were arrested following the operation.
According to the ZRP, the suspects are also linked to 10 armed robbery cases reported in Bulawayo and surrounding areas.
“The ZRP confirms a shoot-out incident involving the suspects linked to the case resulting in the death of Mehluli Ncube (45), alias Mamba, as well as Muzi Richard Fambirai Moyo (45), and the subsequent arrest of Shelton Jubane (37), Charles Ndlovu (52), Prince Chisale and Clive Ncube (27),” police said.
Police said a detailed statement on the operation and the cases would be released on September 19.
