The name Mambo Dhuterere has appeared in a Zimbabwe Republic Police statement naming four people wanted in connection with a series of armed robberies in Harare, Ruwa and Rusape.
Police identified the other outstanding suspects as Khule Diva, Kasongo and Senior Gama, but gave no further personal details about any of the four.
The reference to Mambo Dhuterere is notable because the name is also used by popular Zimbabwean musician Darlington Mutseta, known for songs such as Dare Guru, Mweya Ndisesekedze and Moyo Muti. However, the police statement does not identify the suspect by Mutseta’s real name or state that the musician is the person being sought.
National Interest News has not established that the Mambo Dhuterere named by police is the musician.
The name emerged as police announced the arrest of Tinei Makaripe 47, Pungurayi Mukambachaza and Gabriel Mukambachaza 41 over the alleged robberies.
Police said the latest incident occurred at about 12.30am on September 13 at a company in Borders Estate, Ruwa, where US$108 000 was allegedly stolen after workers were attacked and restrained.
“On 13th September 2026 at around 0030 hours, the suspects and their accomplices, who are still at large, allegedly pounced at a company at Borders Estate, Ruwa and stole USD 108 000.00 cash after attacking and restraining company workers,” police said.
Makaripe was allegedly caught by company workers after falling while attempting to scale the perimeter wall as the suspects fled.
Detectives subsequently arrested Pungurayi Mukambachaza in Damofalls Phase 1, Harare, recovering US$4 900 which police said had been hidden in his vehicle.
Gabriel Mukambachaza was arrested at his rural home in Rusape, where detectives recovered US$5 000, two pistols, ammunition, handcuffs, fuse cables, explosives and three balaclavas, according to police.
One of the recovered firearms, a Tokarev pistol, was allegedly stolen during a March 12 robbery at a steel company in Southerton.
“It was established that the recovered Tokarev pistol was stolen during an armed robbery incident at a steel company in Southerton on 12th March 2026,” police said.
The suspects are also being linked to four other armed robbery cases, including a January 26 raid at a beverages company in Rusape in which US$39 828, a Star pistol loaded with five rounds, pepper spray, handcuffs and three cellphones were allegedly stolen.
Police further linked the group to the March 12 robbery at a steel company along Tilbury Road, Southerton, where US$14 118 was allegedly stolen.
All four suspects named as being at large remain wanted, according to police.
Meanwhile, police are investigating a separate murder and robbery in Bulawayo following the fatal shooting of businessman Tadius Rutanhire 52 on September 14.
Rutanhire was allegedly shot near a service station along JMN Nkomo Street, between Fourth and Third Avenue, shortly after closing his shop. Police said the attackers fled with his bag containing US$10 000.
