From relationships and family life to the everyday contradictions of Zimbabwean society, Ethias Mazambara has discovered that sometimes the simplest way to start a serious conversation is through humour.
Better known on Facebook as Ethi Mwanangu, Ethias or Cde Eggshell, the UK-based Zimbabwean blogger has built an huge audience of followers by turning familiar conversations, personalities and social moments into jokes, memes and satire.
Operating from Canterbury, Kent, Mazambara’s content has remained unmistakably Zimbabwean.
Politics, marriage, relationships, celebrities and the peculiar moments that suddenly capture the country’s attention all have the potential to land on his timeline.
Sometimes the post exists purely for the laugh. At other times, the humour carries an observation about society.
That distinction is important to Mazambara, who identifies himself as a blogger rather than a comedian.
“On this page I share jokes and opinions on social matters. I may also deliver certain messages using jokes and satire,” he says of his platform.
His stated objective is even simpler: “Bringing people together through laughter.”
Over time, Ethias has developed a recognisable identity around his online presence.

His material is often drawn from conversations already unfolding among Zimbabweans.
He has shown a willingness to find humour even in subjects involving some of the country’s most prominent personalities.
Vice-President Dr Constantino Chiwenga and his wife, Colonel Dr Miniyothabo Baloyi-Chiwenga, have featured in his satire, including a running joke in which Mazambara casts himself as Baloyi-Chiwenga’s “first born son.”
It is typical of his approach: take a public figure or familiar situation, add a humorous interpretation and allow followers who understand the context to join in.
Beyond Ethi mwanangu
Away from Facebook,Ethias leads a markedly different life from the character his followers encounter online.
He is married and a father of two boys, balancing family responsibilities with a professional career in healthcare while continuing his studies.
He holds a Bachelor of Science Honours Degree in Radiography, specialising in Radiation Therapy, from the University of Zimbabwe, and has further specialist training in VMAT Treatment Planning, including IMRT, VMAT and SBRT — advanced techniques used in cancer radiotherapy.
Behind the Ethi Mwanangu persona is a highly trained healthcare professional whose expertise extends far beyond social media.
Yet his academic and professional background has never been the centrepiece of the Ethi Mwanangu identity.
On Facebook, the qualifications largely disappear behind the memes and social observations, leaving Ethias to speak for himself.
His profile has, however, begun attracting recognition beyond his immediate audience.
Ethias was recently nominated for the 2026 Zimbabwe Achievers Awards UK People’s Choice Award, putting his name among Zimbabweans being recognised in Britain.
Zimbabwean businessman Wicknell Chivhayo has also publicly promised Mazambara a vehicle, applauding the humour and laughter he brings to his Facebook audience.
The gesture adds another chapter to the growth of the Ethi Mwanangu brand.
A stage without borders
Ethias’s story also reflects how Zimbabwe’s entertainment and blogging landscape has changed.
The country’s daily conversation is no longer confined to radio studios, television screens and newspaper columns. Social media has created space for bloggers and content creators to build their own communities and participate directly in conversations shaping popular culture.
Geography, too, has become less of a barrier
From Canterbury, Ethias can respond to a conversation unfolding in Harare and have his take circulating among Zimbabweans at home and across the diaspora within hours.
For Ethi Mwanangu, that connection has provided a seemingly endless stream of material.
Sometimes there is a message.
Sometimes there is only a joke.
Either way, Ethias has found his place in Zimbabwe’s crowded online conversation — one meme at a time.
