Zimbabwe has been hit by another deadly road crash, with four people killed and 12 others injured in a head-on collision near Chiredzi, Masvingo Province, as the country is struggling to come to terms with the Chivhu disaster which claimed 27 lives.
The latest accident occurred along the Roy-Buffalo Range Road, involving a Toyota Hilux and a Nissan AD Van.
In a statement posted on its official X account, the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) confirmed the crash, saying it occurred at the 120-kilometre peg at about 8pm on August 28.
“The ZRP confirms a fatal road traffic accident which occurred at the 120 kilometre peg along Roy-Buffalo Range Road on 28/08/26 at approximately 2000 hours,” police said.
According to the police, the Toyota Hilux was travelling towards Zaka with nine passengers on board, while the Nissan AD Van was heading towards Chiredzi carrying five passengers.
“Four people were killed while 12 others were injured,” the ZRP said.
The bodies of the deceased were taken to Chiredzi General Hospital mortuary for post-mortem examinations, while the injured were taken to hospital for treatment.
The crash comes as Zimbabwe is still reeling from the death of 27 people in a horrific collision involving a commuter omnibus and a haulage truck along the Harare-Masvingo Highway near Chivhu.
The two road tragedies have occurred against the backdrop of another major disaster that shocked the country this month.
On August 11, 97 people were killed in the Kariba ferry disaster, adding to a series of fatal incidents that have heightened concerns over road and transport safety in Zimbabwe.
