“His legacy will live on through his remarkable body of work and the many lives he touched,” the statement said.

Sebogodi enjoyed a distinguished career spanning acting, directing, writing, singing and theatre facilitation, earning widespread respect as one of South Africa’s finest performers. Although widely recognised for his television roles, he remained deeply committed to theatre, producing works that explored the country’s social and political realities.

Just a week before his death, Sebogodi staged Black Moon at the National Arts Festival in Makhanda. The production examined themes of pain, identity, religion and South Africa’s complex history, reflecting the bold and thought-provoking storytelling that defined his career.
