The Government has confirmed that there were no survivors in a helicopter crash in Marondera Rural on Wednesday evening, with a high-profile businessman among those on board.

Government spokesperson Nick Mangwana confirmed the fatalities in a statement posted on X, hours after the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) announced that an aircraft had crashed in the area at around 5pm.

“The Government wishes to confirm that a helicopter crash has occurred, involving one high-profile businessman, three other passengers, and two pilots,” Mangwana said.

“Current information indicates that there were no survivors in this crash.”

The Government has not yet officially identified the businessman or the other victims, amid widespread speculation circulating on social media over the identities of those on board.

Mangwana said the identities of the victims would be confirmed by police in due course.

“The Zimbabwe Republic Police will confirm the names of the victims in due course,” he said.

“We extend our deepest condolences and prayers to the victims, their families, and their friends during this difficult time.”

Police had earlier confirmed the crash, saying the aircraft had six occupants and that the scene was being attended by authorities.

The cause of the crash has not yet been established, while further details about the helicopter have yet to be officially released.

This is a developing story…
