Buffaloes take a stroll through Victoria Falls town

Date:

Victoria Falls Correspondent

Residents and visitors in Victoria Falls were treated to a uniquely Zimbabwean sight this week when three buffaloes were spotted calmly relaxing in the town centre.

The buffaloes appeared unbothered by the presence of people and vehicles as they settled into their surroundings, highlighting the special relationship between humans and wildlife in the resort town.

Unlike most urban areas, Victoria Falls is built within a protected wildlife corridor and directly borders Zambezi National Park. There are no fences separating the town from the wilderness, allowing animals to move freely between the park and residential areas.

Sightings of elephants, warthogs, impalas and baboons are common in the town, and despite the close proximity, serious human-wildlife conflicts remain relatively rare. Residents have become accustomed to sharing their environment with some of Africa’s most iconic species, while authorities and conservation groups continue to promote peaceful coexistence.

For many tourists, encounters such as the latest buffalo sighting are part of what makes Victoria Falls one of the world’s most unique destinations, a town where wildlife is never too far away and where nature remains very much part of everyday life.
