An eight-year-old boy from Nyaminyami District in Mashonaland West Province has died after allegedly being assaulted with a Mopane stick by his uncle for failing to understand concepts during a homework session.

The incident occurred on October 21, 2026, in Kauzhumba, Siachitondo Village, under the Mola community in Kariba Rural.

Police have since arrested 22-year old Milder Madyembeu  in connection with the murder of his nephew, Nico Mujoni.

According to police, Madyembeu was helping the boy with his schoolwork when he allegedly turned violent after the child struggled to grasp what he was being taught.

In a statement, police confirmed the arrest, saying the child later died from injuries sustained during the assault.

“Police in Siakobvu arrested Milder Madyembeu (22) in connection with a case of murder which occurred at Siachitondo Village, Kauzhumba, on 21/10/2026,” police said.

“The suspect allegedly assaulted his eight-year-old nephew, Nico Mujoni with a Mopane stick after the victim had failed to master concepts which the suspect was teaching him during a homework study session.”

Police said the child later succumbed to his injuries.

The circumstances surrounding the boy’s death have raised concerns over the use of physical violence to discipline children.

Madyembeu is facing a murder allegation following his arrest.
