Zimbabwean dancehall heavyweight Winky D has been confirmed as a headline act at this year’s Castle Lager Braai Day Festival after his omission from the initial advertised line-up sparked questions among fans over his participation.
Popularly known as the Gafa, Winky D will share the stage with Ex Q, Enzo Ishall and other local performers at Glamis Arena in Harare on October 17, marking another appearance at the annual music and lifestyle festival.
His absence from the initial promotional line-up had fuelled speculation among followers, with organisers subsequently posting cryptic messages on social media before officially confirming his participation. Delta Beverages has not indicated whether the reaction from fans influenced the announcement.
In a statement issued on October 7, Delta Beverages confirmed that the three headline acts would be joined by rising performers Jnr Spragga, Atenda Chinx and DJ Loz, among others.
The line-up, featuring more than 10 local musicians and DJs, brings together established performers and emerging talent from different musical backgrounds.
“This blend of established and upcoming artists reflects Castle Lager’s continued commitment to supporting and celebrating Zimbabwean music talent,” the company said.
Delta Beverages, whose corporate affairs department is headed by General Manager Patricia Murambinda, said the festival would combine live entertainment with activities celebrating Zimbabwe’s braai culture.
Beyond the performances, organisers have introduced a new attraction dubbed “Castle Braai O’Clock”, scheduled between 3pm and 4pm, featuring an ultimate braai master contest and other competitions, with merchandise and prizes on offer.
“The festival will bring friends together for a memorable celebration of music, braai culture and shared experiences, complemented by ice-cold Castle Lager,” Delta Beverages said.
Nationwide promotional activities are also being held at popular braai venues ahead of the event, offering consumers opportunities to win tickets and other prizes.
Early-bird tickets are priced at US$10, while standard admission costs US$15. Each ticket includes admission, a braai pack and one litre of Castle Lager Draught, with tickets available through SahwiGate.
“Castle Lager looks forward to welcoming consumers to Glamis Arena on Saturday, 17 October, for a distinctive celebration of music, braai culture and shared enjoyment,” the company said.
