Esther Chivayo (pictured), sister of the late businessman Wicknell Chivayo, has dismissed speculation of foul play surrounding the helicopter crash that claimed his life, describing the tragedy as a genuine accident despite acknowledging concerns over the weather conditions at the time.
Speaking at the family’s Gletwyn residence on Thursday morning, where mourners had gathered ahead of the burial at Glen Forest Memorial Park, Esther questioned the decision to fly in adverse weather.
“It was a genuine accident,” she said.
“It is true that helicopters are not supposed to fly in those weather conditions. I don’t know what happened to the pilot.”
Her remarks came amid continuing speculation surrounding the circumstances of the crash, although the cause has yet to be established through official investigation.

As mourners gathered before proceeding to Glen Forest for burial, speaker after speaker paid glowing tribute to Chivayo, remembering him for his generosity and philanthropic work.
Moe also reflected on the widespread condolences received following her brother’s death, saying messages of sympathy had come from people across different walks of life, including heads of state.
She said the outpouring of grief demonstrated the kind of person her brother had been and the impact he had made during his lifetime.
The tributes painted a picture of a businessman whose charitable activities and personal relationships extended beyond Zimbabwe, with mourners recalling his willingness to assist those in need.
