Zimdancehall star Killer T has walked free after cyberbullying charges against him were dropped following Ambassador Kwame Tapiwa Muzawazi’s decision to withdraw the case, ending a legal dispute sparked by threatening and insulting WhatsApp voice notes.

Killer T, whose real name is Kelvin Kusikwenyu, emerged from the Harare Magistrates’ Court alongside his lawyer, Dumisani Mthombeni, saying the episode had taught him a lesson and pledging never to repeat the conduct that landed him in trouble.

Mthombeni expressed gratitude to Muzawazi for the gesture extended to his client and said Killer T should now use the experience as an opportunity to make a positive contribution to society.

The lawyer encouraged the musician to consider participating in national programmes aimed at fighting drug and substance abuse, saying his public profile could be used to influence young people and raise awareness about the dangers of alcohol and drugs.

Killer T, meanwhile, vowed to quit alcohol and urged young people to desist from alcohol abuse.

He said he had learnt a lesson from the episode and would not allow himself to be caught in a similar situation again.

The case arose from WhatsApp voice notes sent to Muzawazi on October 4 in which Killer T made threatening, insulting and disrespectful remarks.

Following his arrest, the musician issued an unreserved public apology, taking responsibility for his conduct and admitting that he had been heavily intoxicated when he recorded the messages.

“I admit I have been abusing alcohol,” Killer T said in the apology, while acknowledging that intoxication was no justification for his behaviour.

He also pledged to stop drinking and expressed a desire to become an advocate against drug and substance abuse.

The Muzawazi family subsequently accepted the apology, saying it did not wish to harbour bitterness and encouraged the musician to follow through on his commitment to reform.
