Tanzania President mourns Chivayo

Tanzania President Samia Suluhu Hassan has expressed “great sorrow” following the death of prominent Zimbabwean businessman Wicknell Chivayo in a helicopter crash near Marondera.

President Samia described Chivayo as “a young and visionary entrepreneur who touched the lives of many”, as tributes continued to pour in from across Africa following Wednesday’s fatal crash.

In her condolence message, Samia extended her sympathies to Zimbabwean President Emmerson Mnangagwa, the Chivayo family, the families of the other victims and the people of Zimbabwe.

Chivayo, 43, was killed alongside his wife, Lucy Muteke, and three other occupants when their helicopter crashed in the Marondera area. The accident has triggered an outpouring of condolences from political, business and social circles across the region.
