The Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA) has moved to tighten crowd-control, ticketing and security arrangements at the National Sports Stadium ahead of Wednesday evening’s Young Warriors clash against Mauritius in an U23 AFCON qualifier, just two days after a supporter died during chaotic scenes at the same venue.
The announcement comes amid renewed scrutiny of matchday safety at the stadium following Monday’s senior Warriors clash against the Democratic Republic of Congo, where police confirmed a fatal incident at Gate Two.
In a statement, ZIFA said measures have been put in place to ensure a “safe, orderly and enjoyable matchday experience.”
“All turnstiles and ticket scanners have been tested and are working to facilitate smooth entry. Additional stewards will be deployed to assist supporters, while enhanced security arrangements are in place to safeguard everyone attending,” ZIFA said.

Parking at the stadium will also be free in an effort to reduce congestion at the gates and ease vehicle access, with motorists urged to follow directions from parking attendants and security personnel.
ZIFA has also warned that no tickets will be sold at the stadium, urging supporters to secure them before travelling to the venue.
“Fans must note that no tickets will be sold at the match venue. Please purchase your tickets before travelling to the stadium,” the association said.
Supporters have also been encouraged to arrive early, use the designated entrance indicated on their tickets and have their tickets ready for scanning.
“Fans are encouraged to arrive early, use the designated entry gate indicated on their ticket, have their tickets ready for scanning and cooperate with stewards and security officials,” ZIFA said.
The association said it was working with relevant stakeholders to ensure entry, movement inside the stadium and departure are efficiently managed.
Wednesday’s fixture will provide an immediate test of the enhanced matchday arrangements following Monday’s fatal incident.
“We look forward to welcoming you to the National Sports Stadium. Come in your numbers, rally behind the Young Warriors and help cheer Zimbabwe to victory!” ZIFA said.
