A Zimbabwean business executive was gunned down in South Africa after a bitter dispute erupted over three properties he owned, with his grieving family saying he was sprayed with six bullets in a shocking killing.
Jeremiah Madondo (pictured), who had worked for South Africa’s Transnet Engineering for 28 years, was shot dead on July 19, leaving his family and colleagues reeling from the sudden loss of a man they described as a loving breadwinner and an inspiration.
Madondo was serving as Acting Corridor Quality Manager for the North Corridor, based in Vryheid, at the time of his death.
His family claims the killing was linked to a dispute over his properties, amid allegations that tenants had been ordered to vacate two of the houses before August 1, 2026, as some South Africans sought to take control of the properties.
Family spokesperson Ishmael Madondo said the family had been informed that Jeremiah was killed over his three residential properties.
“We have been informed that he was shot to death over his three residential properties,” Ishmael told the media.
“His tenants were warned to leave the houses because there were claims that by August 1, 2026, the houses would be owned by a South African.”
The killing has left the Madondo family demanding answers as they mourn a man who had spent nearly three decades working in South Africa.
Transnet Engineering confirmed Madondo’s death in a condolence message, saying he had joined the company on January 28, 1998.
A memorial service for Madondo was held last Friday at King and Queens in Dorenfontain, South Africa.
His body was later repatriated to Zimbabwe and taken to the Madondo family homestead in Hayisoswi Village, Rusape, Manicaland Pprovince where he was buried on Sunday.
Police in South Africa had not publicly confirmed the family’s claims regarding the alleged property dispute by the time of publication.
