The Senate has just passed the Constitutional Amendment Number 3 Bill (CAB3) with a 75-4 vote.

The bill is now expected to be signed into law by the president.

This follows the passing of CAB3 in the National Assembly last week. The bill seeks to extend the presidential term from five to seven years, delaying the country’s 2028 election and allowing sitting President Emmerson Mnangagwa to remain in power until 2030.

Text of the bill also shifts the power to elect a president from a direct popular vote to selection by Parliament.

This is a developing story……
