The Zimbabwe Republic Police has officially confirmed the identities of the five people who died in the Marondera helicopter crash, bringing clarity to earlier reports surrounding the fatal accident.
The victims have been identified as businessman Wicknell Chivayo, his wife Lucy Chivayo, Lucy’s aide Sanelisiwe Magagula, and the two pilots, Captain Kelvin T. Soda and Captain Courage Mutavirwa.
The helicopter crashed in the Marondera area on Wednesday, killing all five people on board. The incident has sent shockwaves across Zimbabwe, with Chivayo’s death attracting widespread attention because of his high-profile business activities and close links to prominent political, business and social figures.
The official confirmation of the victims’ identities will help dispel conflicting reports that circulated on social media in the immediate aftermath of the crash.
