An old social media post in which controversial Zimbabwean activist Susan Mutami appeared to predict Wicknell Chivayo’s death in an aircraft crash has resurfaced online following the flamboyant businessman’s death in a helicopter accident.
The resurfaced post, which was published on X in May 2025, more than a year before Wednesday’s tragedy, has sent social media into overdrive, with users questioning the striking coincidence.
Chivayo, his wife Lucy Muteke and three other people were killed when a helicopter crashed in the Marondera area on Wednesday evening.
The businessman’s death has triggered an outpouring of grief across Zimbabwe, but amid the tributes, attention has shifted to Mutami’s old post.
In the post, Mutami directly referred to Chivayo and predicted that he would die in a plane crash, telling her followers to ‘Save this post’.
The message has now resurfaced following the fatal crash, with screenshots circulating widely across social media.
Mutami’s prediction has attracted intense reaction because of its apparent reference to an aircraft accident involving Chivayo.
Chivayo and his wife were travelling from their rural property in Chikomba, Mashonaland East Province when the helicopter went down in the Marondera area.
The businessman, who rose to prominence through his business interests and became one of Zimbabwe’s most recognisable wealthy personalities, was known for his lavish lifestyle, expensive cars, luxury properties and close relationships with prominent political, religious and entertainment figures.
His death has generated huge interest both in Zimbabwe and beyond the country’s borders.
As news of the crash spread, social media users began digging through Chivayo’s past posts and other material connected to his highly publicised life.
Mutami’s old prediction quickly became one of the most widely discussed pieces of content.
Some users described the post as eerie because it appeared to anticipate an aircraft-related death involving Chivayo.
Others cautioned against reading more into the coincidence, pointing out that the post was about a plane while the aircraft involved in the tragedy was a helicopter.
The circumstances surrounding the crash remain under investigation.
