Zimbabwe women cricket team produced a spirited all-round performance to defeat West Indies Women by four wickets in the second One-Day International at Harare Sports Club, levelling the three-match series 1-1.
The Lady Chevrons bowled out the visitors for just 139 in 39.3 overs before completing the chase at 140 for six in 40.5 overs.
The victory was built around an outstanding bowling display from Nyasha Gwanzura, who claimed four wickets as Zimbabwe’s attack repeatedly exposed the West Indies batting line-up.
West Indies, who won the toss and elected to bat, struggled to build substantial partnerships after losing wickets at regular intervals.
Veteran batter Stafanie Taylor provided the main resistance with a patient 47 from 68 balls, including four boundaries, while captain Hayley Matthews contributed 26 from 35 deliveries.
However, Gwanzura’s four-wicket haul ensured the visitors never gained control of the innings.

She dismissed Matthews for 26 before removing Jannillea Glasgow, Zaida James and Aaliyah Alleyne as the West Indies innings unravelled.
Michelle Mavunga also played a key role with the ball, taking three wickets, while Francisca Chipare claimed two.
Ashmini Munisar was left unbeaten on 20 from 45 balls, but the West Indies were eventually bowled out for 139, leaving Zimbabwe with a modest target.
Zimbabwe’s chase was anchored by wicketkeeper-batter Modester Mupachikwa, who made 38, while Josephine Nkomo added 30 to put the hosts in a strong position.
The Lady Chevrons lost six wickets during the chase but remained in control and reached their target with 55 balls to spare.
Gwanzura then completed an impressive individual performance by remaining unbeaten on 18 as Zimbabwe crossed the finishing line on 140 for six.
The result represents Zimbabwe’s first ODI victory over West Indies in the series and sets up a decisive third match at Harare Sports Club on Wednesday.
The third ODI is scheduled for September 30, with the series finely poised at 1-1.
The victory will also provide further encouragement for Zimbabwe’s women’s side as they continue their campaign in the ICC Women’s Championship.
