Kelsea Tafirenyika attracted attention outside the Harare Magistrates Court after she was photographed leaving the premises barefoot following her appearance in a US$9.35 million money-laundering case.
Tafirenyika, who is married to President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s son, Collin, was dressed in a black suit and sunglasses and carried a handbag as she walked alongside her lawyer, Tiriwamambo Kangai of Venturas & Samukange Legal Practitioners.
She had appeared before the Harare court for a routine remand hearing, with the court extending her bail and remanding the matter to September 30.
Tafirenyika remains out of custody after successfully challenging an earlier bail decision at the High Court.
Her appearance in Harare coincided with developments in Bulawayo, where her three family members had their bail reapplication dismissed.
Bulawayo Regional Magistrate Sibonginkosi Mnkandla ordered Kelsea’s mother, Amina Jassinta Jessub Arab, 47 and her sister Dyonne Tanaka Tafirenyika, 28, to remain in custody at Khami Female Remand Prison until their next court appearance on September 30. They appeared together with their relative Noreen Jessub, 51,
The three are facing allegations relating to drug offences and money laundering.
They are represented by lawyers Admire Rubaya and Brezhnev Mathonsi.
The women had returned to the Bulawayo Regional Court seeking bail on the basis of alleged changed circumstances, but Magistrate Mnkandla dismissed the application and ordered that they remain in custody.
The cases involving the three women and Kelsea Tafirenyika are being handled separately in Bulawayo and Harare.
