Mother, two children murdered in Darwendale, bodies burnt

A mother and her two children were murdered at Shirleigh Farm in Darwendale on Sunday, before their bodies were dragged into a hut that was locked from outside and set on fire.

The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) confirmed the incident, saying they were investigating three murder cases involving 26-year-old Abigail Mwale, her five-year-old child, Johanne Maiswa, and seven-month-old Jayden Mwale.

“Police are investigating three cases of murder that happened at Darwendale,” the police said in a statement.

“The unknown suspect allegedly killed three victims, a mother and her two children, at Shirleigh Farm, Darwendale, on 13 September 2026.”

According to police, the suspect then “dragged the bodies into a hut, locked it from the outside and subsequently set the hut on fire.”

Several items, including a blood-stained white cloth, a white sack, an adze and a pair of socks, were recovered from the scene.

The bodies were conveyed to O’Hea Hospital mortuary for post-mortem examinations.

Police appealed to members of the public with information that could assist in identifying and locating the suspect or establishing what happened to come forward.

“We are appealing for information that could help identify the suspect and establish what happened,” police said.

“Anyone with information is urged to report at any nearest police station.”
