South Africa head into Sunday’s Namibia T20I Tri-Series final against Zimbabwe as favourites after an impressive turnaround in the tournament, but the Chevrons will be hoping to upset their neighbours and claim the title in Windhoek.

The final will be played at the Namibia Cricket Ground on Sunday, September 6, with the two sides meeting for the third time in the competition. South Africa won both of their previous encounters, including a 43-run victory on September 1.

The Proteas have been in strong form since losing their opening match of the tournament to hosts Namibia. They secured their place in the final with three consecutive victories, the latest being an 11-run win over Namibia in a high-scoring contest.

South Africa posted 228 for four in that match, with Lhuan-dre Pretorius producing a superb 101 off 53 balls, while Connor Esterhuizen contributed 88 off 40 deliveries. Namibia responded strongly but finished 11 runs short.

South Africa are favorites to beat Zimbabwe

Pretorius has emerged as one of the tournament’s standout performers and is currently South Africa’s leading run-scorer, while Duan Jansen has been among their most effective bowlers. The Proteas’ batting depth and recent momentum are expected to give them an advantage in the final.

Zimbabwe, however, cannot be discounted.

The Chevrons finished second in the league phase after recording two victories, both against Namibia. Brian Bennett has been their leading run-scorer in the tournament, while Brad Evans has been among their leading wicket-takers.

Zimbabwe will also take confidence from their ability to recover after a difficult start against South Africa. In their first meeting, they were reduced to 51 for six before eventually being bowled out for 142, falling 43 runs short of South Africa’s 185 for seven.

Zimbabwe will be hoping to step onto the winners’ podium

The match is expected to be another high-scoring contest, with conditions at the Namibia Cricket Ground having produced competitive totals during the tournament. South Africa’s recent batting performances, particularly Pretorius’ form, could prove decisive.

Several match previews have consequently tipped South Africa to lift the trophy, although predictions remain far from conclusive and Zimbabwe have enough firepower to make the final a closely fought contest.

For Zimbabwe, the challenge will be to contain South Africa’s top order while avoiding the early batting collapses that undermined their previous meeting.
